Chun Yu is an Associate Researcher in Tsinghua University. He got his PhD degree from Tsinghua University in 2012. He is keen to research computational models and algorithms that can facilitate the development of high-efficiency multi-modal user interface, such as mobile phones, large displays, VR/AR headsets and so on. He has published more than 30 papers in prestigious conferences and journals in Human Computer Interaction, including CHI, UIST, CSCW and IJHCS. His recent research won the ACM CHI 2017 Honorable Mention Award, ACM CHI 2016 Honorable Mention Award, ACM CHI 2015 Honorable Mention Award, ChineseCHI 2015 Best Paper Award, IEEE UIC 2014 Best Paper Award, ACM CHI 2013 Honorable Mention Award, ACM MobileHCI 2013 Honorable Mention Award. He was the recipient of Advances of Science and Technology (2015), First Prize, Adiministration of Education, China. He was the recipient of CCF-Intel Young Faculty Researcher Program in 2016.

Research Interests

Recently, various new interaction platforms have emerged, such as mobile phones, wearable devices (e.g. smart watches), smart TVs and VR/AR headsets. Users leverage multimodal channels (e.g. touch, gesture, gaze and so on) to convey input intentions. These channels afford distinct input capacity and mental model compared to traditional graphical user interface based on mice and keyboards. This points to importance and necessity of developing new theory and approach for develop natural and efficient user interface. My research basically models user interface as a communication channel between users and computers, and takes advantage of the statistical and probabilistic method to model and build high-performance user interface. Currently, my research interests include text entry on constraint user interface, modelling human input capacity, VR/AR techniques and application, smart space interaction and so on. Besides, we have built an online system ( to facilitate non-native researchers to write academic papers, which has also attracted many attentions.
